Pulp Comics

Like most things in life and in comic books, there is an origin or a beginning to a story. A set of events put in place, that lead to new things that sometimes are unimaginable and unforeseen. The origins of Pulp Comics are no different.
It all started on Feb. 18, 2009 when Paul Tappay at age 34 donated part of his liver to his father Garry at the Toronto General Hospital. Garry, 71 suffered from cirrhosis of the liver. He was also diabetic and his kidneys were failing. The liver donor transplant surgeries were a complete success!

Paul worked as an Animal Control officer at the Lincoln County Humane Society but during his recovery, he had time to think about what he really wanted to do in life. The transplant surgery for his father was a very emotional and personal event in his life. To give the gift of life was a wonderful thing to do and now he had a chance to start a new life for himself. Recently divorced, longing for a new start, his parents, Agnes and Garry, both asked him to take this time during his convalescing to consider his future possibilities: maybe a career change, go back to school, retrain for another job, do something that he wanted to do but never had the chance.

Paul always wanted to have his own comic book store. He had collected comics since he was 10 years old and loved the art work, the stories they told and the awesome super heroes that he always dreamt about as a young boy. It was also comic books (gifts from his sisters), that passed the time while he lay in the Hospital recovering after the transplant. The seed was planted and a store was about to be born.

Paul put together a Business Plan with assistance from the City of Niagara Falls, found a perfect store front on Queen Street, and with the help and support of his family, he opened his store “Pulp Comics” at 4413 Queen Street in Niagara Falls on May 22, 2009.
Pulp Comics is a new spin on the traditional comic book store. No more are the good citizens of Niagara subjected to dark, crowded, messy, cluttered comic shops for their reading and pop culture needs. Pulp Comics is the place to buy all your new release comics, graphic novels, toys, t-shirts, and collectibles. They have over 10,000 vintage back issues to peruse in the “Back-Cave”, free WiFi, classic Arcade Game, posters, DVDs and more.
At Pulp Comics, "We have the fiction for your affliction".
Pulp Comics is located at 4413 Queen Street in Niagara Falls and can be reached at 905-353-0666 or viewed on line at www.pulpcomics.ca. This 3rd of July will be the First Anniversary of Pulp Comics, 16 months after Paul's and his father’s life changing surgeries. Heroes come in all forms…
