Ching Ming Festival
Every year on the first day of the solar term, the Asian Culture celebrates the Ching Ming Festival. On June 6th the Chinese Cultural Association of Niagara celebrated their annual Ching Ming at the Fairview Cemetery. Families and friends of young and old came together to cleanup gravesites, plant flowers and light incense to honour their ancestors. The elders see this day as respecting their forefathers who came to Canada during the early 1900’s to start a better life for their future families. After each gravesite was respected, a traditional Chinese picnic was held in the cemetery. In 2009 the Ching Ming Festival committee donated ten red maple trees in the memorial grove. This year the Chinese Association will be donating a memorial park bench on behalf of the Chinese Community.
