Forestview Public School's Literacy Day

Held annually on January 27th, Family Literacy Day was developed by ABC Canada Literacy Foundation and Honda Canada in 1999 to encourage families to read and learn together. Forestview Elementary School celebrated their literacy day with an Olympic theme. Students and staff were encouraged to wear red and white to support Canada’s 2010 Winter Olympic athletes, and at a morning pep rally the gymnasium was a “sea of red and white”. Student’s from each class traced their hand and wrote a special message to cheer on team Canada at the games. These messages were then posted on a large map of Canada and were displayed in the school’s gymnasium until the conclusion of the 2010 Winter Olympics. Parents joined in the celebration and later in the day were able to read with their children.
